I tend to avoid #NewYearsResolutions, but not this year.
In 2024, I resolve to push back every single time someone uses the term #VRU, or #VulnerableRoadUser.

It's a transportation catchall for "humans not safely ensconsed inside a motor vehicle," and it's lazy, inaccurate, offensive, and counterproductive.

It would be good to have a #VulnerableRoadUser framing in HRM comms too - the "share the road" language really doesn't cut it when the sharing is so inequitable. Not sure how that can be influenced but I would be very happy to help with it!

I wish legislators would focus on fixing the ways roads are constructed rather than blaming the victim (#VulnerableRoadUser).

We need to focus on vulnerability in the system not the users.
