A ★★★½ review of Underworld: Evolution (2006)

The first Underworld is arguably a better film, but Underworld Evolution is the film where the franchise really leans into its fun. Sure, Len Wiseman’s sequel to his franchise-starting vampire vs. werewolves riff is exposition-heavy and lacks the sheer style of the 2003 film, but it remembers more often that an action film and it gives its cast plenty to chew on (metaphorically and literally). Kate Beckinsale’s work as Selene was always criminally underrated, and even more here than in the first film. She carries main arc of the movie on her leather-clad back and turns a whole lot of
