The Ulrepforte was built in the early 13th century as part of Cologne’s medieval city wall. Around 1450, a tower was added to it and it was converted into the Kartäuser Windmill.
The mill tower is all that remains of it.

The Ulrepforte - in Cologne dialect: Ülepooz - as part of the medieval city wall of Cologne, was first mentioned in 1245. On the first photo the side facing out of the city.

On the second: The side of the Ulrepforte facing the city centre, one of four surviving city gate castles in Cologne. It was the smallest and probably less important city gate, near which - outside the city walls - the potters (Ulner, also Üler, Euler) practised their craft in the Middle Ages. Around 1450, the gate was walled up and the two gates and the tower were converted into the "Kartäuser Windmühle" (Carthusian windmill. The pillars that can be seen here were parts of the mill walkway.
