Rain and Serendipity

It often rains for the entire rain of Caribana and this makes me happy. It makes me happy because when I complained to them about their noise pollution two or three years ago they gave me a boiler plate answer instead of doing something about it.

I am currently staying away from my home until Sunday morning because I know that to stay home would drive me nuts. From what I see the Caribana is an event with just 6000 patrons or so, and yet they play the music so loud that it is impossible for me to do anything without hearing it from 18:00 - 03:00 from Wednesday night to Sunday morning.

When I was trying to cope with pandemic solitude and COVID isolation this was especially unpleasant. It was a reminder of the way in which parts of society preferred to get back to "normal" than eradicate COVID. In Switzerland an extra month of self-isolation would have got us to COVID zero.

It's raining now, and it's cold. It's cold enough for t-shirts to be hidden by warmer layers. It's the type of weather that makes you happy not to make plans. Walking in light rain is fine, but walking in heavy sustained rain is less pleasant.

In theory this afternoon I will see one or two relaxed bike rides being offered. At the moment I doubt that these rides will take place. It's not that we're made of sugar, and it's not that we'll melt. It is that if we get soaked we may get cold.

This evening I will go to the Chateau de Pampigny to watch a play. I didn't realise it was outdoors until after I had committed. If it rains it will definitely be an experience. My concern is the cold, rather than the rain.

As I write this the sun is coming out so I might grab the opportunity for a walk.

And finally, I don't mind that events are held, but I do mind that they take away my freedom to sleep when I want to sleep, and when they invade my privacy with noise pollution. If Caribana re-designed their sound system then I would have nothing negative to think about the event. I fled, so that I may complain about the event less.
