Tram works on Victoria Street and Elizabeth Street are almost done.

The new tram stop on Victoria Street looks far too narrow and small to accommodate the high number of people likely to use it. It's also far from Peel Street which drastically increases the interchange penalty between the 57 and 58 - something that will likely be in higher demand post-Metro Tunnel. While having more accessible stops is great, if a stop is not fit for purpose it will make it more difficult for everyone to use - including people with a disability.

On a positive note, I think I see part of a protected bike lane on the northern approach to the intersection with Therry Street. They also appear to have widened the platforms at the existing chronically-overcrowded Queen Victoria Market stop on Elizabeth Street. I hope they've also fixed the issue here with tram signal delays and platform lengths but we'll have to wait and see.

And of course the long-awaited Victoria Street east-west tram track connection is finally in place!

St Vincent's Plaza - one of the few three track tram stop layouts in Melbourne.

It is an important interchange for the 11, 12, 30 and 109 tram lines. It is also the terminus for the 30 which uses a short siding further east.

The southernmost platform features a heritage tram shelter that I believe dates back to the 1930s and the M&MTB.

The third platform services northbound Route 11 services to improve operational efficiency and reduce delays.

New post out today about the new tram stop upgrades that were recently completed on La Trobe Street in Melbourne.

A great example of a project that we'll hopefully see a lot more of in the future!

Love that new tram stop smell!

Brand new level access tram stops on La Trobe Street, this one is at Swanston Street.

Built to a facing platform island design, it includes a double length platform that's big enough for two E class trams, three pedestrian crossings per side and new passenger information boards.

It also has "State Library Station" for the soon to be open Metro Tunnel!

RT @euro_projects When I was in Toronto, I was surprised to see streetcar shutdowns for renovations/upgrades.

In European cities, they install temporary switches overnight, which allow trams to keep running normally. Funnily enough, they are called "Californian points" in some European languages.

@swope I haven't been keeping up with it, but a keyword is "freight tram". Here's a post from 2018:

Taken from @doublelineblock on the Bird Site, here's my Australian public transport bingo card!

I'd use the free space for Victorian ferry because that hasn't been included for some reason (I've caught it to French Island).
