#ClimateDiary #TragedyofTheNonCommons 3/3 But then this Friday at NSOTA (see link), a student said that those in power really do not care if most of humanity dies. I had had this thought before too - made the links btw ecocide and genocide here too, etc etc .

But somehow, when she said it, it all just hit me all over again, with more force than ever. I mean, that is so obviously what it is.

It explains all.

#ClimateDiary 2/3 And shortly before that I had just written this blog, on the Tragedy of the NON Commons (and yes it was stupid to put this piece on Medium, I know) - about how the real tragedy is that the world is owned and ruled by a small global small eilte whose interests do not align with real climate action. #TragedyofTheNonCommons

Ah, thanks! I generally avoid series, but might add it to my handy "too braindead to do anything useful but not ready to sleep" list 😄

Am currently halfway through (i.e. last night fell asleep halfway through!) impressive 2022 documentary #TheGrab — recommended by several of our #SurvivingTheFuture community — which came to mind several times while reading your #TragedyOfTheNonCommons piece. Devastating.

Attached: 1 image I've just published my first ever blog: "The Tragedy of the Non-Commons" I wrote it in July, frustrated by a Twitter thread about how the Tragedy of the #Commons continues to be taught at universities. I then left it (it's somewhat experiemental) but with #COP27 and #Twittermigration coinciding this week, I just wanted it to be out there. Would love for it to be shared here on our #digitalcommons and grateful for any comments https://medium.com/@p.vonhellermann/the-tragedy-of-the-non-commons-4bfad884cdbe

#Budget #UKPolitics This article by Gary Stevenson is so good, please read every word of it.

“Whatever Jeremy Hunt says, traders know the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. And they’re paid millions to bet on it.”

This is what the world is - it is run by a minute elite for a minute elite and the rest of us, the masses, the natural world, we just don’t count. It is a #TragedyOftheNonCommons (will reshare my own piece on this below 1/n)

Take it from a former banker: the budget is for ordinary people. The mega-rich look on and laugh

Whatever Jeremy Hunt says, traders know the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. And they’re paid millions to bet on it, says the author Gary Stevenson

@urlyman @peterdutoit 😄 that would be quite a feat! Having said all this, I am not actually sure whether convincing “everybody” is necessary. Maybe it is, social pressure and all. But to me the real problem is that those in charge, the top 1-2% running the world, are at most concerned, not alarmed. BECAUSE they are so privileged, and because of their interests. It really is a #TragedyOfTheNonCommons

Attached: 1 image 53/n Not just because they know or think that they will be able to look after themselves (whxih they may or may not be right about), but also because their whole experience of the world is so orderly, so ok, that real catastrophe is just not part of their repertoire of thinking. They really think things will not be so bad. It is a Tragedy of the NON-commons that it is these people who are in charge. More and more convinced that the best #ClimateAction is to tackle #Inequality:

to break the hold of the upper-middle classes (in the #UK, say, the top 5%, those who send their children to #PrivateSchool) on our institutions, land, media, economy, minds, everything.

The #ClimateCrisis is a #TragedyOfTheNonCommons.

Wrote this short blog a while back but resharing as I feel I just need to keep on talking about this 1/2
