The mountains and streams around Toroku Sansou (土呂久山荘). The green is still great but most of the river was dry. There was a place upstream by Tsurue Sato-san's house where Toroku river still flowed, but it went undergound by the bridge to where the arsenic kilns and mining company baths used to be. Maybe the river goes on strike by the polluter areas as a resistance? The rocks are still beautiful though and it takes a few day for the river bed to soak up the remaining pools after a rain. There were tadpoles and little fish in the shrinking pool. I hope they can hang in there until it rains...

Toroku River behind Toroku Sansou in Takachiho, Miyazaki, Japan.

The water was still running a few hundred meters up stream again but went underground by a bridge. Many parts of the river were dry, here behind Toroku Sansou a pool remained but without any rain it was getting smaller day by day. We need rain. But the dry weather seems like it was great for basil A local farmer couple (Mariko and ShiNIchi Sato) gave us great big bundles of basil!!
