A Black trans woman walked off with a Tony this week and said the truest thing anybody said all week: take up space.
She cut roughly 500 looks for Cats: The Jellicle Ball — five hundred separate acts of here I am — and turned a costume shop into a monument. First out trans person to ever hold the statue.
Taking up space is not a metaphor when your existence is the thing they're trying to legislate down to nothing. It's a body in a room built to keep it out, refusing to fold smaller.

We thought the “Chorus Line” tribute performance was poorly conceived and badly executed — not the least because at that point, having found time in the broadcast for a number from every one of this year’s Best Musical and Best Revival of a Musical nominees (which I think is how it always should be!) did they need three additional songs from past years’ winning shows?
