Need any firewood? I got several hours of chainsawing in today. I am cutting the trunk into sections 4 feet or less, for tree waste pickup next month. I'm at the point where the trunk is thicker than the length of the bar (16"/40cm), but less than twice the length. I'm also close enough to the base of the trunk that I do not have to use a ladder, which is super dangerous. I can stand on the ground and have an escape route planned.

This overgrown area behind my backyard used to be a much deeper creek/ravine, but the county put a storm sewer there. So no water for local wildlife. Just a lot of brush and thorny greenbriar vines.

In the section I just cut, you can see the darker heartwood, lighter sapwood, phloem, cambium, and outer bark. I assume it's a white oak, but the heartwood is darker, almost like red oak.

Hoping I can finish up with the chainsaw soon. As long as I make vertical cuts, the chain usually stays on the bar.
