"The National Weather Service (#NWS) out of Gray, Maine has confirmed a high-end #EF1 tornado with winds of 110 mph touched down in Lyme, New Hampshire on Tuesday evening. It was on the ground for 1.8 miles.
"Dozens of trees were knocked down close to Whipple Hill Road. Based on the pattern of wind damage, the National Weather Service determined it was indeed a #tornado, rather than straight-line winds. "

Need any firewood? I got several hours of chainsawing in today. I am cutting the trunk into sections 4 feet or less, for tree waste pickup next month. I'm at the point where the trunk is thicker than the length of the bar (16"/40cm), but less than twice the length. I'm also close enough to the base of the trunk that I do not have to use a ladder, which is super dangerous. I can stand on the ground and have an escape route planned.
This overgrown area behind my backyard used to be a much deeper creek/ravine, but the county put a storm sewer there. So no water for local wildlife. Just a lot of brush and thorny greenbriar vines.
In the section I just cut, you can see the darker heartwood, lighter sapwood, phloem, cambium, and outer bark. I assume it's a white oak, but the heartwood is darker, almost like red oak.
Hoping I can finish up with the chainsaw soon. As long as I make vertical cuts, the chain usually stays on the bar.
