A ★★★ review of This Much I Know to Be True (2022)
[English] Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have been working on joint projects for some time now. Andrew Dominik accompanies both of them in a mixture of documentary and concert film as they record their latest album. It sounds strange, but I found Nick Cave's stories about his pottery the most interesting. He modeled numerous sculptures on the theme of "devils", in which he expresses his own story and that of his family, which is certainly strongly influenced by loss and grief. The musical parts vary for me. Some songs in the middle section are great, where Cave sings something like
Nick Cave is the antithesis of a rockstar — an unassuming intellectual who nonetheless remains a born entertainer as well as a mesmerizing raconteur.
