awareness about some cancers increasing in incidence in individuals younger than 50 and importance of preventing delayed diagnoses
Sometimes we hear that patients are told that if they do not have certain cancers on mom's side of the family, their risk of having a hereditary cancer affecting female organs (such as breast) and developing that cancer may not be as high as someone who has
Generally speaking, this may not be true

Do you need to be a person diagnosed with cancer in NL to access the services by the #ProvincialCancerCareProgram?

Your healthcare system is here to help support you - and yes I wish we had better and more accessible healthcare (but this is a conversation for another time)
#ThisIsOurConversationLet's take advantage of what is already available to us (for example, https://cancercare.easternhealth.ca/) by the healthcare system and push for more!
You know the answer already :
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR
And advocate for yourself (or for family members) until you get clarity (sometimes we need to push a little bit to get our symptoms considered serious and we get adequate healthcare)
Confused?
Have questions?
That is fine.
Cancer is a complex disease!
There are unknowns and for each individual and depending on their family and personal history, life and work conditions, our risk may change
So what do we do??
Please talk to your doctor when you experience anything unusual
Also talk to you doctor to learn about your risk of developing cancer and what you can do to reduce it
Also take advantage of the population screening services - they can save lives

Today's #ThisIsOurConversation topic is:
Why do we have a slightly higher risk of developing and dying from cancer, compared to other provinces?
(Listening it again: I think somewhere I forgot to say "lack of". Lack of healthy food and healthy environments are linked to adverse life events)
