Oriol Salvador on Instagram: "I've finished #TheSportyOne or #WhoIAmMyStory, @melaniecmusic's book. An unexpected, but highly appreciated, birthday gift, back in October. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of the @spicegirls, and particularly @melaniecmusic. Prior to the book release, I've probably watched and listened to every promo interview, Q&A and podcast she made, and I was extremely excited to read it. In a weird way, I can trace back personal chapters in my life from chapters in hers, and this was an interesting shared throwback. It's also insightful to understand better what was happening behind the scenes, the challenges hidden by the success and the glamour, and to appreciate why she did things that I did not understand at the time. As any other recent revision on pop culture from the 90s and 2000s, the book exposes a whole lot of the embarrassing traits of a sexist music industry and the tabloid press, as well. In the end, it's comforting to conclude that she (we) made it to the other side, with a better and stronger understanding of self and celebrating the challenges overcomed. Music is an important part of the book. Not just for songs with the band and her solo career, some songs are mentioned here and there, turning it into a musical throwback to some tunes I had forgotten or did not know. In fact, I've been adding songs to a playlist while reading the book, you can find it on my Spotify profile."

Imagine being #MelanieC of the #SpiceGirls in 2002 and getting invited to #LizaMinnelli's wedding to David Guest in New York City, sitting in a table with #CarrieFisher and #GrahamNorton. How fun is that?!

Currently reading her memoir #TheSportyOne (page 336)
