Let The Rope Hold (Cassie Lee) – The Minus 5 | WGOM

This was my most played song from 2025. The 60's garage rock sound is an instant hook to my ears. (0 votes, average: 0.00 out of 10)You must be a WGOM Citizen to rate WGOM Videos.Loading...

Today I was listening to the self-titled ("Gun") album by The Minus 5 (2006)

The Minus 5 - Oar On, Penelope!

You look at a title like that and you expect it to be a palindrome...

Scott McCaughey seems to have recovered from his stroke, which is great (here's hoping Matthew Sweet can do the same), and he's joined by the usual panoply of indie/Power Pop superstars (Peter Buck, Patterson Hood, Spencer Tweedy, Debbi Peterson, Kurt Bloch, and Linda Pitmon), and a bunch of great guitar-pop tunes.

Pretty great!

Something new this morning. The new Minus 5, Oar On, Penelope! You know the Minus 5 great supergroup with Peter Buck & Scott McCaughey and Spencer Tweedy. A good addition to any band.
Great stuff!

The Minus 5 - Down with Wilco

Another fun album of melodic, Beatles-influenced pop from McCaughey and a bunch of others orbiting late-period REM (including Peter Buck and Ken Stringfellow of the Posies), plus backing from folks from Wilco.

All that said, it doesn’t sound like a Wilco or REM album…it’s definitely McCaughey’s…

Today’s listening is ‘Old Liquidator’, the 1995 album by The Minus 5.

The members of The Minus 5 vary from album to album and on this outing the band comprised Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck, Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer.

I have to say that I don’t like this album very much!

Any melodies are interspersed with plonky tuneless piano runs and screeches of guitar in a very discordant way.

They went on to much better things!
