The character David Hewitt played by Richard Carlson doesn’t actually exist in Lillian Hellman’s play and was created specifically to be a love interest for Teresa Wright’s character. Nonetheless, a sequel titled “Alexandra” staring Carlson and Wright was planned and then later scrapped.

“The Little Foxes” is based on a 1939 play by Lillian Hellman, a writer who was later blacklisted for being a communist and for her refusal to cooperate with the HUAC assholes.
