Ik had een klasgenoot die er een kocht in een dump. Voor weinig.
Hij heeft hem nagekeken, gesmeerd, en aangesloten op zijn computer als printer via een adaptertje.
Na al die jaren werkte dat. Daar kunnen nieuwe printers een puntje aan zuigen hoor.
Eén nadeeltje: Als hij een flink bestand ging uitprinten, kwamen de buren kijken waar het lawaai vandaan kwam 😂
Handig: Zet je koffie er op en je hoeft niet met de hand te roeren.

@Slash909uk @phlash Oh! I had forgotten I had these online. These are from when we built Genie Internet for Cellnet - Originally on the Telex floor (where Wireplay was), and then we had to move it up to the 5th or 6th onto my office floor, where the corporate networks hung out. This was the install record, sadly taken on a 1999 digital camera, sorry! I had a skim, there's nothing in there that would be considered classified these days.
The Celnet Genie service, which we designed as an "ISP in a box", was pretty amazing, really, especially for an essentially free ISP.
Also, it's one of those odd jobs where you end up as both lead applications architect, systems manager, server builder, removal dude, and underfloor cable rat and crimper in the same project. I feel jobs like that in big corporations tend not to exist any more.

Il y a 30 ans, ce #Telex #Sagem SPE est devenu un compagnon du quotidien au cours du service militaire.
Débit de pointe : 50 ou 75 bps. Oui, bits, pas kilo. Il fonctionnait d'ailleurs avec des bandes perforées en papier.
Quelques mois plus tard, retour à la vie civile et upgrade massif : #Transpac à 64 kbps !
Le genre de saut technologique qui faisait vraiment sentir le progrès.
Vu récemment au musée des #transmissions, à #CessonSévigné.
It's pretty wild that airplane pilots in 2025 are saying “LOLOLOL” to each other using a text encoding method developed in the 1930s.
I mean, this toot is encoded in ASCII and sent over the Internet, both of which are pretty old too, but #Telex (the text encoding method used by #ACARS) is *really* old.
I guess pilots don't need emojis. Or lowercase letters. 🤷♂️
