They went around the Westfjords, along the north coast, a low pass over Egilsstaðir Airport EGS and across the glacier-covered center of the island back to the downtown Reykjavik Airport (which doesn't usually see 757s). @JetTip I already told Nick but I'll mention it here for anyone following the thread. IcelandAir substituted a plain-vanilla 757 TF-FIO "Krafla" for today's Flight 665 to Portland PDX. Hekla Aurora #TFFIU currently has no other flights scheduled. I suspect thunderstorms in Portland's forecast may be to blame. They probably don't want the guest of honor to be late for its sold-out farewell sightseeing flight on Sunday. They still have time for it to fly to a closer city. #aviation #travel #avgeek

I have a hunch the chance of thunderstorms in this afternoon's weather forecast in Portland may be why IcelandAir substituted another plane for Flight 665 to Portland today. Unless there was a technical issue, it seems they just didn't want it to be late returning for its own farewell party on Sunday. I see Icelandair has changed the aircraft for today's Portland run. A plain-vanilla 757-200 (TF-FIO "Krafla") was substituted on the flight. Hekla Aurora (#TFFIU) no longer has any flight plans before its Sunday farewell sightseeing flight. Shorter flights to Europe or US & Canada East Coasts could still be scheduled in that time.
