I got a @JetTip alert about SWA8502 N8772M MAX8 diverting to Portland #KPDX. Interesting, ferry flight out of maintenance from Everett #KPAE to Phoenix #KPHX - SWA doesn't serve PAE but uses maintenance facilities there. Can we figure out the issue? As a ferry flight, it can't be pax. PHX weather isn't bad now; thunderstorms forecast later. Apparently not urgent enough to divert closer like RNO, SMF, BOI, EUG or SLC. PDX is not a SWA base. https://adsb.lol/?icao=ac1301 #aviation #travel #avgeek
Spotted approaching PDX this afternoon: Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800 N559AS in native-American themed "Xรกat Kwรกani (Salmon People)" special livery. This plane was previously "Salmon Thirty Salmon" before it needed repainting in 2023. I flew on this plane in Jan 2025 on the PDX-LAX leg of my trip to Australia. #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

Spotted arriving at PDX today: green/unpainted Boeing 737 MAX8 as BOE242 on final approach to Runway 28L. The pre-painted rudder looks like AeroMexico, though missing the stripes of standard livery. It transmitted ADS-B data indicating this plane will be registered in Mexico. This is the first flight of the aircraft, coming from the Boeing 737 factory in Renton #KRNT to the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar. #KPDX #UnpaintedAirplane #PicklePlane #aviation #avgeek #PNW

"Take a sneak peek inside PDX as the main terminal's final phase nears completion" by KGW News (NBC Portland) - The new terminal that opened at PDX in Aug 2024 was the biggest phase but only 70% of the plan. Once the old terminal was demolished, the last 30% could be built. The permanent connector between Concourses D & E just opened, B & C next. Coming April-June: new businesses, new Alaska lounge, new exits and rest of the terminal. https://www.kgw.com/article/money/business/see-inside-pdx-main-terminal-final-phase-construction-preview-open/283-a3ba67bd-5b43-405c-8a73-024c99b10ddd #KPDX #PDXNext #aviation #travel #PNW
Portland City Council unanimously approved a boundary adjustment to include the half of the property for the proposed Alaska Airlines widebody maintenance hangar not already in the airport "Enterprise Zone", where up to 5 years of property tax discounts are available for exceeding a threshold of long-term job creation. Currently Alaska only has such a hangar in Honolulu, from Hawaiian Air acquisition. No room in Seattle. https://www.portland.gov/council/documents/resolution/enterprise-zone-boundary-amendment #Alaska787 #KPDX #aviation #business #avgeek #PNW
There goes Gonzo! #NOAA Hurricane Hunter Gulfstream IV jet "Gonzo" #N49RF departing Portland International Airport #KPDX in the rain at noon PST today for #science observations from above the front off the coast. The data from these flights are intended to get more data from above Pacific fronts to improve computer forecasting models after a major atmospheric river event in December increased priority of studying them. #aviation #avgeek #weather #PNW
