Today we recognise and support over 70 million people worldwide who stutter. Stuttering is a communication difference that can include involuntary repetitions, prolongations, and blocks โ€” and often brings physical effort, anxiety and social barriers. This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œA Diverse Stuttering Community โ€“ Meeting Challenges With Strengths,โ€ highlights the many ways people who stutter use resilience, creativity and community to communicate and belong.

- About 1% of the worldโ€™s population stutters; roughly 5% of children go through a period of stuttering.
- Around 80% of children who begin to stutter stop naturally; those who continue past early school years are more likely to persist.
- Male-to-female ratio: ~2:1 in children, ~4:1 in adults.
- Stuttering is neurological and variable โ€” myths like โ€œstuttering = nervousnessโ€ or โ€œstutterers are less capableโ€ are false and harmful.
