Bar-Yam's insight that "the hierarchy amplifies the scale of the behavior of an individual, but does not increase its complexity" suggests that it's the wrong tool for this job.
The solutions aren't coming from the top of the org structure, and hierarchical structures make it unlikely they will survive the trip up from the bottom.
"So, 85% of the people in this organization would individually, if they ever heard about it, support the President's idea. But when the machine manufacturing it is a hierarchy, it has less than a fifty-fifty shot at success." -- Kent Aitken
85% probability across 5 levels of hierarchy: 0.85 x 0.85 x 0.85 x 0.85 x 0.85 = 0.44
This is a structural problem that doesn't make it into the #gcdigital dialogue nearly enough. #structurewins
