"<Democrat> meets with <Trump official>, seeks assurances" is one of the dumbest things you can say or do, and yet they keep doing it.

You can get whatever "assurances" you like from anyone in the administration, but the minute Trump's swiss-cheese mind misfires a braincell or Stephen Miller's racism-boner twitches or Russell Vought sees an opportunity to executive-order women back into the kitchen, it's out the window and they'll do whatever they want to do.

If you want to make sure they don't do something, pass a goddamned law. That is literally your job. Stop pussy-footing around.

Chuck Schumer has finally intimated he may actually DO SOMETHING about the current political situation. Whether he actually does, and if so, whether he stands his ground or folds like cheap suit, is yet to be seen.

I hate to say "I told you so", but I told you so. Democratic party politicians have needed to DO THINGS, not write "stongly worded letters", for a long time now. Even Minnesota Governor Walz has been sending out sternly worded press releases and soundbites today - for jebus' sake, you're the governor. You don't say "Somebody should do something!". You get on with it, and you DO SOMETHING.

A 2-post thread I did last April. It was already clear to me that the slide into fascism was complete; it wasn't something they could work to prevent at that point.

I weep for the American experiment, and the good American people. The MAGAs, accurately described by Ken White as "shitty people, shitty values, shitty culture", can get fucked.
