Every year in #Stokesley, in the week leading up to and including the day of #StokesleyShow, the fair comes to town and takes over the high street. This year’s new attraction is called SkyFall, an 80 m tall vertical drop rollercoaster, allegedly the tallest in the country.

A Red Grouse, the Civil War, and Pennyman‘s Delinquency

This Red Grouse, clearly unimpressed by my presence, stood its ground clucking defiantly as I trudged up Easby Moor. Its red wattle gave away its gender, maybe it was trying to attract a mate. Back in the 17th century, grouse would not have been hunted to the same extent as today but still might have made a convenient snack for any troops trudging ...

Not in the Show, but I had to share this “doggy in the window” of an estate agent on #Stokesley high street!

Beyond the Mist — The Battle of Stokesley

This morning, the air on Great Ayton Moor was crystal clear, but away in the south-west, a low mist crept up the Vale of Cleveland, making the wind turbines at Seamer look like they're levitating.

That white house yonder caught my eye. Turns out, it's Howe Hill. Now, I can therefore take a brief detour into a tale about the Saxon Battle of Stokesl ...

The Ghost of Stokesley Town End

Yet another tale spun by the industrious quill of Cleveland's venerable chronicler, Richard Blakeborough. This piece has lingered on my to-do list, biding its time for a fitting photograph. Regrettably, my patience has waned. Let this image of Aireyholme and Cliff Rigg suffice. Look closely, and the roof tops of Stokesley reveal themselves in the distant, ba ...

In #GreatAyton, just down the road from #Stokesley, the curious sight of #EV charging bays that have been there so long that the paint markings have started to wear off, and the charging posts themselves have been removed. Disappointing, especially given that there are still no working public charge points for miles around. Nationally, most settlements of comparable size are way ahead of this, often with one or more rapid chargers. Must do better!

The Kildale Spectres

Another one of the old folk tales collected by Richard Blakeborough and published in the Northern Weekly Gazette in July 1901.
THE KILDALE SPECTRES.
By RICHARD BLAKEBOROUGH.
The first part of this story, so far as the source from which it sprang is concerned, has not passed through many lips, seeing that the father of the man to whom the writer is indebted for the whole st ...

While in Stokesley we recently discovered this beautiful little vegan bistro cafe, “The Green Apple” It’s about a mile from the high street down station road. Reasonably priced and excellent cooking and presentation, we thought it was good value and lots of choice on the menu. Not vegans ourselves but will be returning in the future. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g2161235-d19383572-Reviews-The_Green_Apple_Cafe_Bistro-Stokesley_North_Yorkshire_England.html. #cafe #Stokesley #walking
Watching #HarryAndMeghan #Netflix but late to the party 🎉
It would take something to set me against Harry (we share a birthday 🎉) seriously always good luck to him life’s pretty rubbish sometimes and money can’t put stuff right 🌸all those people feeding off their story need to look inside themselves and start there - it really doesn’t deserve hate and nastiness 🌟or the relentless news coverage either I guess there’s more important events to focus on.
