He tends to name walk-on characters after people he knows in real life, to avoid having to create physical descriptions, etc. for brief characters. Some years ago, one of my friends was "Capt. Lee Tennant of the USS Chance."

This was very good. The antagonists (newly created for this book) attack a Federation outpost using gravity weapons.

Kirk and Spock wind up fighting for their lives on the alien home planet while Sulu and the rest of the crew battle the invaders amid the ruins of the shattered outpost.

And in the middle of the chaos, it's up to Uhura to take command of the Enterprise. A well written and extremely enjoyable read. #startrek #startrekbook
