Name South Philly's Newest Park
The Friends of South Philadelphia High School (SPHS) Park invite you to contribute your creative ideas for naming South Philly's newest park! Your suggestions are essential in shaping the permanent identity of this valuable community space. We encourage nominations that consider individuals who have made a significant contribution to the greater South Philly community. The chosen submission will win a $100 gift card to the South Philly Food Co-op. South Philadelphia High School Park encompasses the green space along South Broad Street between Snyder Avenue and Jackson Street and lies on the former site of the original high school that was built in 1907. After several years of advocacy from the Lower Moyamensing Civic Association and community partners, and support from Councilmember Squilla, the School District of Philadelphia leased the land to the Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation to turn this once underutilized area into a great public space available for all to enjoy.
