A 2008 vehicle purchased in 2008 is now 16 years old. Driven an average of 10k miles per year it would have about 160k on the odometer. Mechanically the vehicle is as safe and functional as the day it rolled off the assembly line. Failure of this feature does not directly impact safety. Yet here is a feature used to make a sale, a profit for Toyota and a dealership, which no longer functions.
