For those that like their Sleng with a touch of Teng, the ever lovely Wrongtom is doing a presale of his version of Somethin' Else by Eddie Cochran over a Sleng Teng riddim.

Remember a few weeks back I said I might release Desta Zion and I's long-shelved version of Eddie Cochran's Somethin' Else over the Sleng Teng rhythm? Well it's happening, but I still can't afford to press the 7", so if you want one, I'm doing an early bird presale of £11 inc P+P (UK only)...

If there is ever a Reggae Hall of Fame, Hiroko Okuda at Casio Computer Co. would be a fitting nominee for a monumental contribution she unknowingly made to the popular Jamaican musical genre.

Just posited this on another forum, and personally, I quite agree with myself, whoever posted that is a smart feller:

If sampling is valid, presets are kind of the same paradigmIt’s analogous to collage, if collage is valid in art (it is), then so was sampling (ie KLF), so is using presets for art, and I would go so far as to say so is using the built in demo tunes of your gear

So is this the best example of not only a really good hit but an entire musical movement, based on an instruments demo tune?

"The “Sleng Teng” riddim revolutionized #reggae #music in the mid-1980s, and has spawned hundreds of versions in the decades since then. Less well known is the story of how the distinctive bassline originated in a preset sample included on a #Casio electronic keyboard and the work of a young developer fresh out of college. "
