A ★ review of Gorp (1980)

Sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, ableist, racist, animal abuse, sexual assault… I’ve probably missed some. I was alive when this was made (albeit fortunately too young to watch it). Was this what people liked in 1980? It’s terrible! Anyway, it is definitely a secular Jewish summer camp: there’s a Rabbi, the camp manager hates the religious stuff and serves pork, the poor rabbi has basically no students. There are some North American Jewish tropes (Jewish Princess, digestive issues etc.) but it feels like a movie that hates itself *cries*. HOWEVER, it means it  does belong on my newly created Jewish Summer Camp
