From the American Academy of Dermatology : “ Can a tattoo raise my skin cancer risk?
More research is needed to know if tattoos and skin cancer are linked.Dermatologists say the greater risk is that a tattoo may disguise skin cancer and make it harder to detect. “

"The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday withdrew a proposed rule that would have barred all Americans under age 18 from using tanning beds.
Dozens of states — including California, Delaware, Illinois, Kansas and Minnesota — as well as Washington, D.C., already ban the use of tanning beds for minors. Other states have restrictions that allow teens to use tanning beds with parental consent."

My dermatologist froze a LOT of areas on my head a couple of days ago. Normally I don't mind, but this time I actually got brain freeze. Now I have weird blisters on my scalp; they're red on the edges, white in the centers. I look like someone with a space disease from original Star Trek! 🤣
They're booking me for a full photodynamic scalp peel, too. Apparently precancerous cells, like Spring, are busting out all over.
🔬 Patterns of Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure and Skin Cancer Risk: the E3N-SunExp Study
Six or more sunburns before age 25 are associated with higher risk of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Recreational sun exposure, like vacations, links to basal cell carcinoma. Daily, long-term sun exposure links to squamous cell carcinoma.
Observational
At the surgeon for my latest Mohs procedure. They say the best way to avoid skin cancer is to not get a sunburn before you turn 18. I learned this when I was 30...so here I am to serve as a warning to others!
Tiny bump less than 1/8" across turns into a circle 4x or more its size...not something you want if you can avoid!
Oh yeah, and you're not sedated for these surgeries, you have to wait while the lab checks the edges to confirm they got it all.
Learn what your diagnosis means, explore current treatment options—including therapies that work with your immune system—and feel more confident as you move forward.
