Capitalism has created a world of bullshit abundance, where we have too much of what we don’t need and too little of what we do. Through this system’s pursuit of profits, we have been put on a collision course with social and ecological limits that can no longer be ignored. We need an alternative. We need radical abundance. A world of human and non-human flourishing made possible by democratically planned production.

In this study circle we will read Radical Abundance (2025) by Kai Heron, Keir Milburn and Bertie Russell, an eco-socialist book packed with real-life examples of communal planning and resistance, proving a better future is possible. Together we will discuss the examples presented in the book, if they could work in a Swedish context and how they relate to degrowth.

2026 is an election year in Sweden—nationally, regionally, and locally.

@degrowthmalmo invites you to an evening discussion about Swedish politics as a kick-start to this election year. Together with a representative from Naturskyddsföreningen (the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation), we will talk about Swedish environmental politics from a #degrowth perspective.

During the evening, we will give a short introduction to the Swedish political landscape and environmental politics—both nationally and locally—and discuss what is at stake in this election. We want to create an open conversation with all participants!

This evening is particularly relevant if you are new to Sweden or new to voting in Sweden (Did you know that non-citizen residents can vote in municipal and regional elections?) All Swedish-speaking members are, of course, more than welcome to join and help make the conversation as interesting as possible!
