500 millon years – apart
The shales and limestones on this side of the bay is "only" approx. 500 million years old and belong to the geological time periods Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian.
This narrow strip of limestone inland from #Skagerak in #Telemark is «Why» the settlement in the #Skien #Porsgrunn #Langesund area. Here you will find rich agricultural areas, a rich archaeological history and the industrial development for Norsk Hydro and Norcem – thanks to the limestone deposits.
The gneisses that make up the rock on the other side of the bay is approx. 1000 million years old and belongs to the geological time period Precambrian.
