In #Norway #Porsgrunn Google will build one of if not the biggest #datacenter in Europe.

Starting with 150 MW in 2026 it could grow up to 860 MW. This would be 5% of the energy production of the entire country effectively consuming all energy so far exported. This amount will not be availablity of the Northern European neighbour states including Germany and contribute to a significant increase of electricity prices.

500 millon years – apart

The shales and limestones on this side of the bay is "only" approx. 500 million years old and belong to the geological time periods Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian.
This narrow strip of limestone inland from #Skagerak in #Telemark is «Why» the settlement in the #Skien #Porsgrunn #Langesund area. Here you will find rich agricultural areas, a rich archaeological history and the industrial development for Norsk Hydro and Norcem – thanks to the limestone deposits.
The gneisses that make up the rock on the other side of the bay is approx. 1000 million years old and belongs to the geological time period Precambrian.
