Early-’90s action movies really said “logic is optional, stereotypes are mandatory.” Deadly Target and Showdown in Little Tokyo are less buddy-cop thrillers than accidental documentaries about Hollywood’s brain on martial arts, cocaine, and vibes. Glorious, baffling nonsense.

How is it legal for two cops to just beat down the security and then start a fight in the middle of a private business? These, and other questions of police abuse of power were seemingly routinely ignored in early 90s action cinema.
