Annie Hsh 👾🖖☕40 years today since 'She-Ra Princess of Power' premiered back in 1985. First introduced as Princess Adora, He-Man's long lost twin sister in the 1984 minicomic 'The Story of She-Ra', with the story later expanded in the 'He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword' animated film, before she eventually got her own show.
Originally created by Larry DiTillio and J. Michael Straczynski. She-Ra, much like the main Masters of the Universe cartoon, came out fresh after Star Wars had reshaped sci-fi and fantasy in pop culture and blended both those elements in its storytelling.
It's not uncommon these days to cynically view those shows as glorified toy commercials that wanted to cover both the boys and girls demographics, but a lot of talent, heart, and imagination went into them and their respective comics, and it's no wonder how many Gen Xers and millennials still feel deeply nostalgic about them.
