"Never durst poet touch a pen to write Until his ink were temper'd with Love's sighs ..." Love's Labour's Lost 🎨Unknown Artist [ @the-rsc.bsky.social ] #ShakespearesBirthday #BookSky

When I went back to school to finish my undergrad, I took an English creative writing class. I took something I might like although I had to fill some requirement of my degree. We were studying sonnets and this one was one we looked at.

I love it. It reminds me of you beautiful, wonderful friends of mine who live in my phone.

Sonnet 29:
By William Shakespeare

When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
(Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

Today is reckoned by many to be #ShakespearesBirthday, though please remember that many of #Shakespeare's plays weren't actually written by #Shakespeare, but by someone else who had the same name.
