Budapest, 1972
Ferenc Sebő, shown here on the left, passed away last week at the age of 79. He was a pioneer of the so-called táncház ('dance-house') movement in Hungary which revitalised interest in traditional Hungarian folk music, both in Hungary and in the regions beyond. Táncház, as well being great fun, is used to teach folk dance and music and is listed as a UNESCO "Intangible Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding". Sebő's influence was immense and among his many proteges is the internationally renown folk singer, Márta Sebestyén.
