Something just happened and I’ve come to a realisation…

I think I’ve been secretly been made our Group Scout Leader/Group Lead Volunteer!

✅ Attend every District AGM
✅ Provide Section Cover
✅ Attend all Sections regularly as a Leader
✅ Fundraising
✅ Manage training
✅ Recruit new Leaders and parent helpers
✅ Community outreach
✅ Attempt to Increase Membership
✅ Grounds maintenance
✅ Talk to Group AGM in more than 1 capacity re: multiple topics
✅ Public Relations

When were they planning on telling me?!

Seriously, I seem to pretty much be doing the Role already. Maybe I should just do it officially?

At our Trustee/Committee Meeting this week it was basically suggested I would be suited to the Role I was sounded out for by someone else at another level a few weeks ago.

Coming from who it came from meant a lot, because of who they are and that they know me well, I’ve only met the other person who suggested I was suited to it occasionally.

It’s feeling almost inevitable. (To be clear, there’s no peer pressure here, only pressure from myself.)

Currently feels like it’s not going to be long until I have another Scouting Role. I was (briefly) sounded out a couple of weeks ago, and last night was complimented in the context of same thing.

Very flattering. And part of me would certainly like to take it on. But I’ve not seen the job being done 1st-hand and it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s more to it than I realise.

Having said that, the suggestion I should consider it came from someone who has held the Role.

I had a fascinating evening.

Primarily it was firstly being walked through Welcome Conversations by another volunteer, before then holding them for two our new Leaders in our Group, one after the other.

The independent conversation volunteer happened to be our Volunteer Development Lead and we had a good natter about many other things too. (I happened to have met them a few times over my time so we know each other little bit.)

The call went out today, internally for now, asking for interest in taking on our Group Lead Volunteer Role. A position that has been empty my entire time Scouting.

Though I can see a time in the future I would put myself forward for it, that time is not now. I need more experience.

Having said that, I did point out that we can have multiple GLVs (a joint appointment of 2 or more), sharing responsibilities and the workload.

UNSAID I *might* consider that.
