⌛ 4 days left: Say No to seismic blasting and carbon dumping at Scott Reef
Woodside has proposed a carbon dumping project near #ScottReef, one of Australia’s most biodiverse coral reefs, threatening underwater life and paving the way for further fossil fuel expansion.
Carbon dumping would require the regular use of deafening underwater seismic noise for hundreds or thousands of years - risks carbon leaking included.
“But there’s a problem. The enormous Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa gas fields are hundreds of kilometres off the coast of Western Australia – buried underneath pristine coral reefs. To access it, the company would have to drill more than 50 wells around the Scott Reef system and pipe the gas 900 km along the ocean floor to a processing plant.
“Now Woodside has an even larger problem. The state’s Environmental Protection Authority is signalling it will reject this A$30 billion project, known as Browse, which is part of Woodside’s much larger Burrup Hub project.”

Environmental groups welcome EPAs rejection of Woodside's proposed Browse Gas project
Leading environmental groups have welcomed the Western Australian environment protection authority’s (EPA) rejection of fossil fuel giant Woodside’s proposed Browse Gas project.
Scott Reef, off the coast of Western Australia, is described as ecologically extraordinary with more than 1,500 species documented across its formations, many unique to the area. It is considered an important resting and feeding area for migrating pygmy blue whales, manta rays, whale sharks, migratory birds, and green turtle hatchlings.
