I will be so sorry to see this felled, especially for nothing more than people's holiday entertainment. A mighty tree that has lived to be 80 feet tall should be left in peace. 😢🌲
A reminder that trees like this are roosting areas and nesting sites for birds. A tiny saw-whet owl 🦉 got accidentally bundled up in a tree and taken to New York a couple of years ago, and it took some time to rehab it so it could be released again. Thank goodness the owl was found, but how would you like it if someone came and knocked your house down, especially right on top of you?
Rockefeller Center needs to investigate alternatives, like constructing a fake tree that can be assembled, decorated, then disassembled once the holiday season is over.
