From NWS Los Angeles - now TEN DAYS of Santa Ana winds. TEN DAYS. If we hadn't had so much rain recently, we'd be critically dry and burning. I am unsure on the record, but the massive wildfires we have seen in the past few years have been when those winds have blown for around 3 days.

".SHORT TERM (TDY-TUE)...17/1257 PM.

Santa Ana conditions continue, now going into its tenth day. Offshore gradients pulsed up slightly today but upper level wind support has been lacking and advisory level winds have been very isolated. Models continue to indicate offshore flow in place through next Wednesday, weakening Sunday and Monday, but then pulsing up again Tuesday. ...."

Raymond Chandler, well known quote from "Red Wind"

"There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge."

Potential Critical Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California

"Critical fire weather conditions are possible January 23-25, as another round of Santa Ana Winds may emerge, coupled with anomalously dry weather conditions. Strengthening surface high pressure in the Intermountain West will likely favor an increase in Santa Ana winds over Southern California during this period.

a) There is a 40 to 50% chance of below normal precipitation in Southern California next week. Below normal is defined as the driest third of climatologically observed precipitation for mid to late January...."

Ventura County:

The Santa Ana wind event that has impacted Ventura County is winding down. Most wind advisories have expired for Ventura County. Thursday is anticipated to be mild and will usher in a transition back to onshore winds for Friday, followed by the chance for a marine layer on Saturday which will bring a much-needed boost to relative humidity.
