@jacob @maprva @protomaps @bdon For more detail, if you turn on the 1952 layer here https://georeference.maprva.org (zoom in to make sure it appears), you are looking at a single PMTiles file made from 6 different COGs that were created on OldInsuranceMaps.net (each COG being a mosaic of ~80 #sanborn sheets). On disk, these COGs combine to about 1.9gb (and would be more than that they were merged into a single file). The single PMtiles file is just 732mb! And renders extremely quickly too.

Pour one out for David Sanborn today, lost to prostate cancer last night at age 78. He pioneered a sound for a generation of alto sax players and his show Night Music played some of the best jazz and adjacent music ever on broadcast television.
