Heute mal ein paar Fakten zum Höckerschwan: Höckerschwäne können bis zu 20 Jahre alt werden. Mit ihrem Gewicht von bis zu 14 kg sind sie die schwersten flugfähigen Wasservögel Mitteleuropas. Männchen und Weibchen unterscheiden sich kaum in ihrem Äußeren. Lediglich der Höcker über dem Schnabel ist bei den Männchen stärker ausgeprägt.

In Greek mythology, Zeus appeared in the form of a swan to Queen Leda of Sparta. As a result, Leda laid two eggs. From one egg hatched Helen and Pollux (demigod children of Zeus), and from the other hatched Clytemnestra and Castor (mortal children of Leda's husband King Tyndareus).
