This is actually quite interesting, it's amazing to see just how much they changed in the last year.

One of the most noticeable changes I noticed is the lighting is drastically less dramatic, I believe this is due to the introduction of global illustration, so theoretically it should be more realistic, but it is definitely less "cinematic". I also read a comment that they corrected the colour temperature of the sun's light to match that of the real colour temp of Vega, which is neat.

Some more differences I noticed is that in some scenes the character face models looked worse (first scene), but in others (Gary Oldman's speech) they seemed much better. The Hornet models also seem to be better, and the Javelin model is drastically different. And the clouds in the beginning are less "cool".

A little nugget that I just came across from Squadron 42's development update news letter.

Now, why would they need to improve the effect of water against the visor if the player's head isn't going under water?

This dev update appears to cover the last few months, so this is probably "old news" in terms of what they're working on today.
