The result was the opposite of the 87% approval rating officially claimed in Russia. In Bern, Putin received 16 percent of the vote, in Geneva 20 percent."

The Cuban government was among the first to congratulate Vladimir Putin on his victory in the Russian presidential election. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Pope Francis, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing, President of Honduras Xiomara Castro, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian and former Bolivian president Evo Morales also joined in the congratulations.
