Pulping area of a huge abandoned paper factory, outside of Manchester (England)

Bales of chopped hemp and flax once arrived here, ready to be processed into paper pulp. Workers loaded the material into large spherical “pots”, where it was boiled under pressure in caustic acid for several hours.
