Rather than making a straight forward biopic, #StanleyKwan opts for digging deep into telling a story about a complicated woman who lived in a time in a country at the beginning of modernization and political and social upheaval, using footage from the few surviving films from that era, interviews w/people who knew #Ruanlingyu, reenactments, and on-screen candid discussions w/actors. #MaggieCheung, in the zenith of her beauty and career as an actress portrays Ruan.
