Yesterday, I once again succumbed to the lure of new sheet music, mostly because I stumbled across Julian Lambert's lovely YouTube channel where he introduces pieces and gives tips how to learn them. He also has a bunch of piano courses up on Teachable. (I had stumbled across his channel before, but it's best to forget about such intriguing places right away or your pile of to-be-played sheet music will grow exponentially....)

Anyway, I watched his video featuring a piano arrangement of a Malay folk song and was instantly charmed, and then I watched his video featuring a piece from a recently published collection of pieces by Florence Price and was even more charmed, and... well...

These two collections are now on their way to me. IDK how that happened.

#RomancePianists Making some progress with Karel Svoboda's Drei Nüsse für Aschenbrödel, the title melody of a Czech-German TV adaptation of a Cinderella retelling by Czech author Božena Němcová.

The film is considered a Christmas classic in the Czech Republic, in Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Norway.

#RomancePianists - I recently discovered the contemporary Czech composer Jakub Metelka and fell in love with his beautiful music. Most of his pieces are on the shorter side and are intended for children (the sheet music comes with illustrations), but they are just charming.

This is "The Wisp", the first piece in his album The Secret Garden. Enjoy!

Befitting the season, I started practicing (gosh, I never know how to spell this word 😬) some spooky piano pieces - written by women! I'm having such fun with Mathilde Bilbro's "The Traveler's Tale (The Haunted Dell)" from her Ghost Tales and with Liza Lehmann's "In the Owl's Turret" from Cobweb Castle.

The latter in particular is such a beautiful, beautiful piece. 😍

The stupid Long Covid has been kicking my butt these past few weeks, but I'm trying to get back on track this month and started practicing a new piece on the piano: "Gai Printemps" by Fench composer Mel Bonis (1858-1937). She is fast becoming one of my favorite composers! 🎶

How about another short #RomancePianists reel? Here's an imperfect Schumann. Von fremden Ländern und Menschen is another old favorite of mine, and I'm so, so happy that I can finally play it again!

And more Mel Bonis! This piece is called "Prière" (Prayer) and is also from her Album pour les Tout-Petits
