"Alley Cat" by Bent Fabric is easily one of my favorite 1960s instrumentals. Closer to the Pink Panther Theme than to surf, this is a 1962 classic. For some reason, this hit got omitted from my Billboard Top 40 book except in the index(!). So, for those who like details as I do, here is the Wikipedia page.
