The latest #RetroAdventurers #podcast episode is a pleasant surprise for me this time, as it's one on which I neither recorded nor edited!

Bluesky Social

@retroadventurers.bsky.social I had a lot of fun coming up with this conceit, playing the OLDEST and the YOUNGEST editions of #Zork 1 to come from the MIT/#Infocom core teams. This is a slightly short episode (as playing the same game twice is a bit cheeky given our format), but both these versions of the game are a must-see for completists in the genre.

I mention in passing that I always had a bit of #ImpostorSyndrome around Zork, as I have held the domain `zork.net` since the mid/late 90s. I always felt like I was simultaneously dodging #Activision's lawyers and feeling awkward around the die-hard fans who played until they got every last point. Now that #Microsoft has released everything under an open licence, I should probably put a free build up on my site in #Parchment to celebrate!

The Zork-285 game is interesting in that it did not call itself "Zork"! You'll have to listen to the latest #RetroAdventurers episode to find out what it says. #InteractiveFiction

@anathem @TomDuff @ewhac @error Hmm, was this only in the BBC version? We at the #RetroAdventurers cannot reproduce. #InteractiveFiction

The #retroadventurers are back! Still not on Mastodon, but a great conversation with mathbrush:

Episode 12 of the #RetroAdventurers is out, wherein I was brought on to review a couple of #InteractiveFiction #TextAdventures inspired by #Shakespeare plays with Jason Compton. I managed not to finish either game to completion this time, but absolutely enjoyed one far more than the other. Tune in for connections to #StarTrek 2, Graham Nelson's Inform rendition of The Tempest, and one American explaining a pun that only works with a non-rhotic accent to another American.

Episode 12 - Avon and Macbeth | The Retro Adventurers

Chewing the food of sweet and bitter fancy, Jason and Nick ask for a double-helping of Shakespeare text adventures. The chef heaps a challenging amount of "appetizer" Macbeth (1984, Oxford Digital Enterprises) on their plates, but main course Avon (1982/1988, Topologika) has its day. And that day may be foul, and/or fair, as you like it.
