OsvaldoFarlie R28, engineered by the Scottish Robert Farlie and ordered by NZR in 1878 from England. It had an operational life in many cities, especially in the south island, until it was retired in 1948. Today you can visit it in Reefton on the West Coast just off the main street. It's one of two genuine remaining Farlies in the world, with the other living on display in the US.

Cory, On Rails 🚂Very quiet at the Reefton Railyard at the moment. With the Tawhai tunnel undergoing repair work, trains can't get to town until the tunnel reopens at the end of October.

Today is the 56th anniversary of the Inangahua Earthquake, which killed 3 and injured 14.
The small locality of farmers, miners, electrical Department workers, and Railway families (including mine) was evacuated to Reefton, many never returning to Inangahua.

A ten-room rest home on the West Coast has recently been refurbished. Despite having no guests since February 2022, the heating is still on, cleaners visit every day and some staff are still being paid.
