Celebrate Native American Culture at the 2026 Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow in Raleigh

Raleigh residents and visitors are invited to experience one of the Triangle’s most meaningful cultural celebrations as the annual Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow returns to Harvey Hill at Dorothea Dix Park.

Presented in partnership with the Triangle Native American Society, this free community event celebrates the rich history, traditions, and living cultures of Indigenous communities across North Carolina through dance, music, storytelling, art, and cultural education.

Experience Native American Legacy and Culture

The Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow offers an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about and celebrate Native American heritage while enjoying a full day of vibrant performances and community engagement.

One of this year’s featured experiences is a special drop-in storytime with Indigenous storyteller, educator, and comic creator Dr. IndigiNerd, Lee Francis IV.

Families and children will have the opportunity to hear stories that celebrate Native traditions, culture, and creativity while learning about Indigenous perspectives through engaging storytelling.

Special Olympics North Carolina Returns to Raleigh This Week for 2026 Summer Games

Thousands of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters are heading to the Triangle this week as the 2026 Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games return to Raleigh, Cary, and Morrisville from May 29–31. The annual event is the largest state-level competition hosted by Special Olympics North Carolina and will feature nearly 1,500 athletes competing across eight different sports.  

The Summer Games bring together communities from across North Carolina for a weekend centered around inclusion, competition, and celebration. Events will take place at venues throughout Wake County including NC State University, Triangle Aquatic Center, Ravenscroft School, Buffaloe Lanes, and Triangle Volleyball Club.  

What Sports Will Be Featured?

Athletes will compete in:

  • Athletics (Track & Field)
  • Basketball
  • Bowling
  • Cheerleading
  • Gymnastics
  • Powerlifting
  • Swimming
  • Volleyball

Special Olympics North Carolina says the Summer Games are designed to provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to compete, build friendships, and showcase their talents on a statewide stage.  

Opening Ceremony and Community Impact

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend will be the Opening Ceremony, which includes the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg and celebration events welcoming athletes from across the state.  

The event also creates a major positive impact for the Triangle region by bringing visitors to local hotels, restaurants, parks, and businesses throughout Raleigh and Cary during the multi-day competition weekend.

Volunteers Still Needed

Special Olympics North Carolina is still seeking volunteers for several Summer Games events and activities. Community members age 14 and older can sign up to assist with competitions, athlete support, logistics, and Healthy Athletes programming.
